The Presonus R80 2-Way Active AMT Studio Monitor is a 2-way speaker system that incorporates the dynamic output characteristics of Kevlar woofers, with the ultra-fast transient response and ability to handle ultra-high harmonics that is unique to AMT tweeters. Featuring a transparent and highly accurate sound with a wide sweet spot, they are ideal for use in home and commercial recording studios as well as in broadcast and post production environments.
The custom 6.8-inch Air Motion Tweeter featured in the R80 provides excellent transient response and low-distortion for a clean, detailed, and highly dynamic output. This allows you to hear the subtleties and the greater sense of space that is characteristic of audiophile recordings. Unlike a traditional 1-inch dome tweeter, which provides a mere 506 mm2 projection area, an unfolded AMT tweeter diaphragm provides 8 to 13 times the projection area so its sound coverage is much larger.
In addition to its clean sound and ‘punchy’ bass, the weave and nature of the Kevlar design in the R80’s 8” woofer also works to break up any reflected energy. This means you’ll have delayed reflections reach the listener’s ears, resulting in a less coloured, more cohesive sound. This design, in conjunction with the AMT tweeter, works to create a transparent sound in both models with reduced floor reflections that translates well to a variety of playback environments.
The R80 lets you have your sound, your way. With user-adjustable contour features for optimizing and easily integrating your studio monitor into your sonic space. A four-position Acoustic Space switch helps to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs when the monitor is placed near a wall. Room anomalies can be eliminated with a high frequency driver. Integrating a Temblor subwoofer into your monitor setup has been made easy due to an on-board high pass filter.
The R80 provides balanced XLR, balanced 1” TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. With three different types of audio inputs, it’s easy to feed audio to your R-Series monitors from a mixer, an interface, a media player, or almost any other line-level source.
