The PreSonus PRM1 is a measurement microphone that, unlike the standard, is both affordable and accurate. It is designed for use with real-time analyzers (RTAs) and spectrographs.
The PRM1 uses a 1/4" pre-polarised electret-condenser diaphragm in an omnidirectional setup so that it picks up sound equally in all directions. It can handle sound up to 132dB and its 20Hz-20kHz frequency response is extremely flat so as to provide an accurate representation of a rooms acoustic characteristics without colouring the sound.
The PRM1 has a limited dynamic range as it is desdigned for use with test tones such as pink noise so is not suitable for recording. It is ideally used with measurement software like MLSSA, Spectrafoo, and TEF.
