Modern blues maestro Jared James Nichols has gained many plaudits in recent years, and now has some serious star-power on the world stage. A loyal Blackstar user for many years, the British amp brand has collaborated once again with the Wisconsin-born rocker to launch his latest signature guitar amplifier - the JJN-20R MkII.
A pair of classic EL84 power valves are at the heart of the Blackstar JJN-20R MkII combo, providing a spongy, compressed and upper mid-heavy sound that breaks up beautifully at high volumes. Complete with a stunning racing green tolex exterior, the tasteful JJN-20R MkII looks as good as it sounds!
Clean & "Bluespower" Channels
The Blackstar JJN-20R MkII is a pure, unadulterated valve amplifier. With a single ECC83 preamp tube and two EL84 power amp valves, the JJN-20R MkII delivers anything from pristine-sounding cleans to bold and saturated overdrive tones. The latter can be achieved via the unique "Bluespower" channel - tweaked to Nichols' specific tonal tastes.
Switchable Voices
With 2 versatile channels that allow you to set up switchable clean and overdrive/distortion sounds, the JJN-20R MkII has a clever trick up its sleeve to further enhance its flexibility. Each channel has two footswitchable voices, which gives you even more options.
The clean channel lets you access "American" and "British" voices. The latter has a stronger mid-range, while the US-style mode has a more scooped, bright and focused character. Flick to the "Bluespower" channel, and you can choose between "Classic" and "High-Gain" modes. So whether you want those rich, old-school British rock tones or aggressive American sounds - the choice is entirely yours!
Modern Features
Blackstar's signature 'ISF' tone knob features on the JJN-20R MkII. Letting you mould your sound to be more American or British, this unique control gives you that extra level of tweakability, alongside the flexible 3-band EQ.
Also sporting a USB port and balanced emulated XLR outputs - direct recording has never been easier. With the ability to switch between 1x12" and 4x12" cab emulations, you can also take advantage of the JJN-20R's headphone output for silent practice. And speaking of practicing quietly, you can power down the JJN-20R MkII to 2W. This means that you can attain glorious cranked valve sounds without blowing your ears off!
Effects Loop
Last but not least, the Blackstar JJN-20R MkII boasts an essential effects loop. Letting you seamlessly run modulation and time-based stompboxes between the the preamp and power amp sections, the JJN-20R MkII can become the perfect platform for your pedals.
