The BeatStep from Arturia offers a compact pad controller with unprecedented levels of functionality for programming beats and getting hands on with software instruments and plugins. It can also control analogue hardware too.
At its heart, the Arturia BeatStep is a 16 step pad sequencer for triggering and programming drums and loops, as well as control synthesis and vst parameters via the 16 rotary encoders. Synced up to DAW, iPad or drum software of choice you can use the BeatStep to trigger loops or tap out beats via the velocity sensitive pads as a percussionist. You can also run it as a step sequencer to step input each of the drum parts like the classic drum machines of old.
The BeatStep is also fitted with a CV/GATE output for interfacing with analogue synthesizers such as modular synth racks or modern synths such as Arturia’s own MiniBrute. The step sequencer really comes into its own when used like this as you can programme in the midi notes and use the BeatStep as a MIDI to CV converter and sequence your modular synth units.
